Adult learner gets NVQ award from pop star

An adult learner form the Cheddar Valley has been recognised for her hard work at a ceremony attended by a pop star.

Emma Richards, of Badgworth, won the Teaching Assistant Student of the Year accolade and was given her prize by Brit Awards nominee Beth Rowley, This is Somerset reports.

Ms Richards, 24, has completed an NVQ Level 3 in support teaching and learning and took to the stage to collect her award at the Celebration of Success event, which was held at Weston-super-Mare's Winter Gardens and attended by around 300 people.

Her tutor told the news source that Ms Richards had worked very hard to complete the training and boost her skills.

"Emma was an outstanding student, producing work of an exceptionally high quality," the individual said.

"Despite an absence from the course for some weeks, Emma never compromised the quality of the work and her actions always mirrored and supported her genuine concern for the young pupils with whom she works," her tutor, who was not named, added.

A number of other people were also praised at the ceremony, including 18-year-old Sophie Stevens of Cheddar, who won the Train to Gain Student of the Year award for her work on the NVQ Level 2 hairdressing course.

Another person who recently completed an NVQ is Martin Priddey of Worcester.

The Tewkesbury Admag reported last month that he has been given a permanent contract at car repair firm Nationwide Autocentre - where he was an apprentice for three years - as a result of his success.
